Cellulite is becoming a major concern in the aesthetic industry. It clinically shows with structural changes in the skin surface that results in an irregular appearance resembling an orange peel, dimples or cottage-cheese. It is more prevalent in women then in men and affects approximately 80-90% of post-adolescent women worldwide. Women are more often affected by cellulite due to the structure and anatomy of their subcutaneous septa.
Several non-invasive and invasive therapeutic options have been proposed with variable efficacy. The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a new microwave platform,ONDA Coolwaves(DEKA, Florence, Italy), in the treatment of cellulite in the areas of the buttocks and posterior thighs in women.
A total of 20 women took part in this study. The treatment protocol consisted of 4 sessions with the ONDA Device by Deka spaced 30 days apart.
ONDA is a microwave platform developed with two handpieces which allow a selective concentration of the specific microwave dielectric heating in both deep and superficial subcutaneous tissues. During microwave transmission, a contact cooling system is implemented to avoid returning thermal damage to the superficial layers.
The Cellulite Severity Scale (CSS) was used to assess the severity of Cellulite at different intervals. At baseline, 95% of the patients showed a moderate-severe CSS index. Eight weeks after the last treatment, 80% of the women showed a mild CSS and 20% showed moderate CSS index indicating overall improvement in cellulite.
This prospective study confirmed the efficacy of ONDA Coolwaves(DEKA, Florence, Italy), for the treatment of cellulite on both the buttocks and posterior thigh areas with no detected side effects.
